Gio Gonzalez: NL Pitcher of the Month

This award can go right next to his “NL Suavest of the Week” one.

Gio Gonzalez has been named the NL Pitcher of the Month for May. I’m sure May is nice an all but why is she so special? Why don’t we get to pick who gets awards?

Gonzalez went 5-0, with a 2.25 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 32 innings. It’s the first time a National has gone a perfect 5-0 in a month since Livan Hernandez in 2005. While he caught the great Livan in this category, he still has a few more burgers to go before he can claim the honor of most fabric used to make a Nationals uniform.

He is the second straight National to win pitcher of the month after Strasburg did it in April. I don’t know what this says more. That the Nationals pitching staff is really talented at baseball, or that they hold beverages very well and are easy to pour out of.
